EDS future opportunities and progression?

Wonder if Monaco keep sending their young players out on loan, or whether they try and integrate them into the first team at a younger age? We always seem to find an excuse for not incorporating young players (not quite ready, too much pressure, the league is not competitive enough, but next year, definitely) and then have the bench stacked with players whom the manager doesn't really trust or fancy to start.

Maybe it'll be different next year.

Let's be honest, if Mbappe was at City he'd either be stuck in the EDS or out on loan in the Championship

Monaco buy them at around 14 or 15 years old, play them and then sell them as they can't afford to buy anyone, not sure what your point is to be honest.

Not all of their players. Many are bought around 18-19 and then seem to make a number of starting appearances in the season they join; the same is also true for players within their system. My point is that we are perhaps too ready to find excuses not to bring players in from our own ranks, which stymies their development and leads us in turn to make ill-fitting buys. That's only my opinion, of course. :-)

Necessity is the mother of all inventions - they can't afford to splash huge sums, so they try the youngsters as they don't have a choice and whad'dya know, some of whom turn out to be world beaters.

Mbappe would be out on loan at NAC Breda or Girona if he came through here tbh.
On the real though,Monaco's project started similarly to ours..Big spending & high wages.
Had to tweak their policy though, due to various reasons, now on their way to a league title and in the CL QFs and have become even better. Many of their players would get into our XI comfortably.
Not saying we should become a 'feeder' club, but we could borrow a few of their policies.

I think that some players may feel they've 'made it' when they get bought for £40m+ and thus they stop striving to improve. Monaco don't have that problem with their players as they're all trying to get one of those big money moves to a high spending club.

The glaring problem with our youth policy with this shaping up to be another year of failure, as they simply will not be risked in the league, is that we look for excuses not to play our youth, rather than opportunities to play them.

There have been ample opportunities this season, and previous before, to give youth players a chance. However, there is always a perceived excuse to be had, a 'what if' blocking the door. Many of us make these same excuses on managements behalf, what if we needed at that extra CB on the bench, we need to keep that player happy and therefore in the squad. X has been good lately so he stays, X has been bad lately so he stays to get better. Our entire ethos is geared towards finding excuses not to afford these kids time to prosper.

Not a single Monaco player would make it here, nor would of Sterling, Stones, Sane or Jesus.

This problem runs deeper than our youth players though, it's the same reason the BBC can mock a fan without any fear, certain outlets run awful hit pieces on Sterling and of course it's what we see on the pitch when we utterly capitulate against Monaco, as they have done under Pellergrini, and going back under Mancini.

Edit: Fuck I'm in a bad mood today.

Bringing on Navas when we were 4-1 up against Huddersfield was the perfect example of how fucking useless we are at giving youth a chance. Why on earth wasn't Diaz on the bench? He'd just scored a hat-trick for the EDS vs Chelsea and yet we have Navas, Fernando AND Delph on the bench.

We are petrified with fear, and 'what ifs', is the simple answer. You see it in so many aspects of the club, the sad irony being we are on course to be one of the most powerful in the world and are still acting like the little shit who gets beaten up by his best mates.

If there was ever a moment that turn me on the fucking shit treatment of our youth team it was when Pellergrini played them against Chelsea and the sky didn't fall in - they actually took the game to them, and it was the hangers on (isn't it always?) who fucked it for the kids who we're putting up a real fight against an excellent Chelsea team.
