The material that Trump is alleged to have blabbed to the Russians was classified as "Codeword"; the highest level of security classification. Another level above Top S£cret.
To pass highly classified information to a third party, in this case Russia without the express permission of the source Nation is in intelligence terms probably as bad as it gets. This breach will have put lives at risk, no doubt.

Not to be pedantic, but it is a Special Counsel, not Prosecutor. The difference is that a Special Prosecutor waspart of a law that was allowed to expire in 1999, and made the SP a world unto himself and beholden to no one but the law of the land. It can allow the investigation to go wherever the facts take him. For instance, the Clinton/Starr investigation started out as a sweetheart land deal and ended up with Monica, the cigar tube and a stained blue dress...wherever it takes you.

Believe it or not, Trump can still fire the Special Counsel, as it is simply someone brought in to do a supposedly independent investigation of the facts under the Department of Justice. If he tried it, I think the Trump White House would instantly implode.

Tonight, we hear there is a recording of the leader of the Republicans (Kevin McCarthy) in Congress telling another Republican that he thinks Putin was paying Trump and another Republican!?!

We are literally in uncharted territory. There have been internal wrangling before, but this is of another order.

So, here's the "million dollar question" about the 'Counsel'; what is he actually investigating as he, so very clearly, has limitations.

He is investigating the Russian influence over the election and any ties that relate back to Trump and/or Trump surrogates. His report will be short, in the form of an executive summary-type report of his findings. From there, the DOJ (in this case, Rosenstein, the Deputy Attorney General....because his boss, Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, had to recuse himself over....you guessed it, contacts with Rusdians during the campaign!) determines if there is any legal jeopardy and whether they go ahead with any prosecutions.

The Special Counsel is the ex-ex-Directorof the FBI, Robert Mueller, who is widely regarded as the premier law enforcement professional of the last few decades. Thorough, discreet and above reproach...a true "country before politics" type individual. It will get interesting, especially if there is any "there" there!

Here's hoping Merkel doesn't want to have dinner with him to discuss anything, because he's not allowed to dine with females without his wife present! It's in the Bible, of course. Oh wait, no, he is so strict about his religion, he has made some shit up to make his religious beliefs even stricter. We are fucked either way, which is why many, many people hope his apparent lies are more than just apparent, especially about what he knew when! Hopefully, he goes down with the ship...oh wait, who moves into the White House then??? Paul fucking Ryan....OMG...the guy who tried to write a Health Insurance bill by removing 24 million people from even basic coverage, while explaining how he didn't even understand how insurance (pooling of RISK, NOT JUST MONEY!) works!

Can Pence or Ryan really be worse than Trump? However right wing and reactionary their views are, at least they have a longer attention span than a goldfish and give the impression that they are not completely stupid.

I guess what it boils down to is whether the US is better off with a lame duck clueless idiot who makes the USA a laughing stock but is unlikely to get too much harmful legislation through due to constant scandals and distractions. Alternatively would the country would be better off with a serious politician who might have more influence on congress to get their proposed legislation agreed and enacted leaving millions without healthcare and a few more billionaires. Tough choice.
