Brighton (A) - Post Match Thread.

Still cannot fathom how we can struggle against a side like Brighton but a result is a result and that is all I care about.

It's always going to be tough against teams that set out to stop you scoring at all costs. With all their players parked so deep it makes the area of the pitch we operate in narrow and tight, which obviously makes it more difficult for us to play with maximum fluency. Given that they're well organised at the back too it adds to the problem.

If they'd come out and attacked a bit more, we would have had space to exploit them. See the 1st goal. But why would they? That's suicide for them against us.

No matter how good you are, a disciplined team parking the bus will always be extremely difficult to break down. Chelsea did it perfectly in the 2012 Champions League, and that was against a Guardiola + Messi Barcelona and a Jupp Heynckes Bayern.

Against teams that park the bus a win is more than enough.

Don't know why they gave Walker motm..not as good as zab in his hey day...great result..City fans were a bit quiet today.

We were wasteful , missed chances and lack of a cutting edge , similar to last season but its the first game of the season , three points in the bag which included three competitive debuts and Bernardo got ten minutes as well , Brighton were never going to go toe to toe with us and they will be difficult to beat at home , they were very well organised and credit to Hughton. Nice to see our back four (as alluded to by the snidey bastard Humphreys , that cost more than Brightons ground , squad and pier) keep a clean sheet.

I think it's evident we need another clinical forward. The chances we missed today were criminal.

Going off recent form in the preseason games both Jesus and Aguero have been missing easy chances.

Glad we got the 3 points but does anyone think Pep will be putting a new forward as his priority in the coming weeks?

So despite Walker being our best player today he shouldn't have had the MOTM because he wasn't as good as Zaba on his "hey day" ?

Ok..

Pretty much as expected. 10 men behind the ball for them working hard & making it difficult. Professional job & gave them not a sniff. Something we'll have to get used to again this season - difference being we'll have a better defence & more options from the bench to change it up, let's hope it's enough.
