Vincent Kompany - 2017/18 performances

City have danced around the problem for some considerable time. 3 years maybe? We should have bought a player of equal stature instead of spending millions on millions in pursuit of inferior defenders who couldn't keep him out of the team in a month of Sundays. Our response to Kompany's problems has held us back for some time.
But that's just the thing - we've tried over and over again to sign world class replacements - signing several seemingly excellent CB's that just haven't worked out at all or haven't worked nearly as well as expected. Otters may still come though though. Stones has potential but is still very erratic. Plays well as sweeper with Kompany present.

Meanwhile we may have prematurely let Jerome Boatang go - has some lapses on defense, but if still in our squad - would be a huge asset.
==========
Point being - there's a dearth of talent at CB - and we can't just sign anyone for that position. We need top talent - and have tried to sign such - unfortunately, many of our signings haven't worked out - and some of the signings we thought we had nailed down, broke down at the last moment.

"And Sunday Mirror Sport understands that Blues’ boss Pep Guardiola is so angry that his injury-prone skipper is facing another spell on the sidelines after once again reporting back from international duty carrying a knock, that he is now privately questioning the 31-year-old’s long-term Etihad future."

So Pep is "privately" questioning Company's future but sees fit to let the gutter Mirror know about it.

Who knows... the Mirror may be making this up out of full cloth.

That aside, Kompany is constantly injured - for whatever reason.

Any competent manager would be massively motivated to provide backup for Kompany - perhaps 2 backups given how often Kompany is injured.

And yet, when fit, Kompany is - IMO - the best defender in the P/L and is a perfect fit for Pep's system - so for me, Kompany remains part of our plans going forward - but we'd better sign a backup or two ASAP.

Back in Training apparently. Still don't think he should "walk" back into the first team when fit again. Stones and Otamendi deserve to start now.

Like Hart people think he bleeds blue but the truth is he is more concerned with his own profile, cracking player though

Given the author is Simon Mullock then yes, of sorts.

Does he really need to play against Palace? I mean we could easily win that game with Otamendi and Stones.

I'm saying more along the lines of start those two and then bring Vinny on for the last 20-25 minutes or so. Hell, we could probably get away with starting Mangala against Palace
