Attack by Napoli fans.

Saw the good, bad and ugly in Naples (no offence @Macc Blue), mostly ugly and of all the places I've been watching City home or away this was the pits, worse than Kiev, worse than Millwall, horrible place and a minor miracle there weren't more reports of Blues getting a serious dig.
Had a decent meal or two and some good laughs, obviously seeing Sergio getting that goal was the best bit but won't be saying Arrvederci any time soon.
Cheers Doots. I appreciate your opinion. Love u too and the Goostrey Massive!,,

You,re bang on mate I did an in and out with no digs. (Thank fuck) What a fucking toilet of a place on a parr with Liverpool in the 80’s with sunshine
We survived the taxi ride too cost a bit but worth every cent as we got there safe

Complete and utter bollocks. “Doing your own thing away from the crowds” is absolutely the worst possible thing a visiting fan can do in Naples. Have you not read this fucking thread? Every single incident involved greater numbers of Napoli fans attacking smaller numbers of City fans, many of whom were “keeping their heads down” and were isolated from where the main body of blues were. It’s no coincidence that the hundreds of City fans who stuck together in the port area didn’t encounter any problems there with no Napoli fans daring to kick off with them. You can’t even begin to compare it to somewhere like Dortmund or Munich and assume that what is relatively safe to do in those cities is safe to do in Naples. That’s naive in the extreme.
If you say so. I'll take my route and my methods. Never had an ounce of trouble. By doing my own thing. Staying away from the "main" areas of congregation. If you think that#s naive, fine, your choice. I'll stick to my tried and trusted methods. Served me well for over 90 away grounds.

As for putting a City flag out, each to their own. Wouldn't be my recommended method of enjoying a foreign town.

I can only go off my own experience. We were an isolated group of 6 after the game back in 2011. 1 of which was a woman (my wife) and we walked back to the train station (piazza garabaldi) and got no mither. Loads of towns and cities can look shit holes on maps, Naples is rough though I agree but my main point is that I believe that a group including a youngster would have been better off doing there own thing from the moment they got there as opposed to going to and staying in an area where city fans were making it clear they were there.
And that, my friend, is the answer. It's as if people think that standing in a square, en masse, in a major town, city, won't invite "heat". All talk of Naples, Madrid, Rome, Moscow etc, etc being a nightmare for fans is true - if you don't treat it like any major city. You wouldn't rock up in Milan on a non-match day, wearing City top, pin a flag to a boozer wall and ask 200 hundred others to start singing City songs. Head down, keep quiet, go for a quiet drink. It ain't rocket science. Parade a flag in any major city/town and you're inviting trouble.

Did you go to the Game. Yes or No?
I did. Naples isn’t the kind of place to be waving flags around thinking nothing will happen. Sad, but true . At some point we might play Besiktas ......same scenario. Eccles and other flags in one of their ends upside down is embarrassing .

Generally speaking and at no one in particular, Just putting a few urban myths to bed, there wasn’t 1200 there , nowhere near, you only had to look at the number of buses in the escort afterwards . More went 6 years ago .

As for Naples itself , it what it is . If you get squeamish about graffitied walls ; dustbin bins overflowing , young lads on scooters driving like idiots and open air drug selling .......where are you from ?

Each to his own , the place can be a bit rough and ready to a few of these people getting a bit precious on this forum ( “ arrrest the flag stealers ! “...... you couldn’t make it up . ) Ive had a few days there; enjoyed every minute . Good food, good drink , decent people, buzzing city and that’s before we get to the game itself. Roll on Sunday .

I think there probably was 1200 there. Probably half were on coaches straight to the airport on day trips and the buses in the escort were absolutely rammed with people stood in the aisles and near the doors. Well over 100 on each bus.
I too enjoyed it (what’s not to like about cheap beer and good pizza & ice cream) and luckily avoided any trouble. That’s not to say that you can dismiss the bad experience had by quite a few through no fault of their own. It’s a lot harder to blend in when you’re in a group. I agree the place is an absolute shithole. The area near the station was like a 3rd world shanty town at night with dozens sleeping rough and small gangs of hooded thugs lurking about not to mention the litter, graffiti and pervading stink of piss. I actually travelled to the stadium on the train but just kept quiet and got away with it. The walk from the station to the stadium went through a sort of Napoli fan park where where alcohol and food were on sale and the smell of cannabis was pretty strong all the way. Was nearly stoned by the time I found the away entrance!

Fair comment about the area around the railway station , especially to the sides of the piazza , which is where you get the airport bus . I went to the stadium on the train , leaving Cavour about 45 minutes before the game; train half empty , no mither, got in well before ko .

Just on it again , and I don’t want any Blue getting smartened up , least of all in Naples.....but there were a load of pricks at the game, giving it the big one , protected by the Naples police all day, but getting upset when they were dropped off on the main road in ‘proper Naples’ away from the comfort zone of the cruise terminal and then getting picked off at half one in the morning. Not good for anyone all round and I get fans who get randomly attacked is not good, but if you go to Napoli for an away game don’t squeal when your flag gets taken off in front of you.....embarrassing

At best 2 planes and 4 local buses out of the ground was never 1200... but it doesn’t matter if you were there....it was one of those nights when you’re proud to be there . “ This is what it’s like to be City.”....all through the second half.....like Feyenoord their lot kept it going but in the end it was like shooting fish. Who’s next ?

At least in the end you stayed safe. Sounds like summat you’ll look back on in years to come and laugh about. Glad you had a good trip all in all, hope your pissed up mate did too.
The pissed up lad got thrown out of the ground and none of us knew where he was,hes quite a loud lad when hes pissed so I was worried about him wondering the streets of Naples pissed with his "fuck them" attitude, thankfully I got a text the next day saying he was at home and ok.You shouldn't have to go to an away match and watch your back constantly and be able to sit in a bar and have a few beers etc but unfortunately Naples isn't like that, shame really coz we met some really nice, friendly people there who we had a good laugh with, the only time I would visit Naples again would be en route to Sorrento or Amalfi coast

Whichever way you sugar coat it doesn't make it any less of a shit hole. It also doesn't mean you can't enjoy the experience whilst appreciating what a dump it is.
