With so much money spent in the Premier League, why are many games boring?

This afternoon really highlighted this. So many teams playing to not get beaten instead of playing to win. 0-0's or a smash and grab 1-0 late in the game. Burnley have got themselves to 6th place by playing defensive football then nicking a goal at the end. No denying it's effective but it's so fucking boring.

Burnley have played more games than they've scored goals, and are 6th. We're currently averaging 0.8 points per goal, Burnley are somehow managing to get 1.9 points per goal.

People have a go at us for spending money but at least we put creative, exciting players on the pitch to entertain fans/football fans.

The bottom half of the Premier League is so poor and they've really no excuses with the money they have, too many holding onto cash instead of buying exciting creative players.

The reason is that the first goal is vital in the premier league. Therefore the majority of teams do not want to concede the first goal, rather than attempt to score it. They just realise that they are not good enough to come back from conceding first.

It's all about the managers and the scouting network. Very poor. A good management should make a team like Newcastle, after spending 100m£/season, for 2-3 years, a contender for the CL spots. But they will spend more just trying to avoid relegation. This means different type of players, different psihology, expectations, mentality as a club, etc

The fear of dropping out of the league and losing the money pot is what drives it. Everton aside, from 7th down every club has had a stint in the championship within the last decade and non of them would be out of place there now.

The first thought is don't lose. Win your home games, anything else is a bonus.

Burnley are a great example. Bang average, there are better championship squads. They've scored 10 goals is it? They are 6th. That's right. 6th.

It's interesting that the top 6 are well established in the league for a number of years now. I think this season we will see a clear divide between those and the rest of the division with only 2 Teams, IMO, capable of winning it.

the days of the top having money and no-one else meant teams had to work really hard and strive to get to that money. Now everyone has money they're desperate not to lose it.

Serie A clubs trying to win, so playing good football in the hope of getting the riches. Stoke are already as rich and no-one with any real ambition or desire to play in Europe would go there. You'd go to Napoli/Roma over mid-table if you had any ambition of a career.

The motto of the PL now is "don't fuck up and lose it", which breeds negativity and survival instincts, rather than "strive and achieve riches and glory", which means you attract ambitious investment and forward thinking to try and achieve it.

Agree with last post football clubs in the Premier League are ran like businesses, some not so well, with the prime intention of surviving in there to
keep the huge inwards cash flowing in,at the risk of sterile risk free football.
