It Is What It Is

Something being ''worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it'' is an irritating and nonsensical phrase to my mind.

Just because one person is stupid/gullible/vulnerable enough to pay a stupid over-inflated price for something doesn't automatically mean that it must be worth that amount.

Sounds much better in French though, C'est la vie!

Yer can understand the French use of cliché (hee hee, see what I did there?)- they don't have the English propensity to nick words from other languages. In fact they do their best to keep the language 'pure'! Someone needs to tell them that they're wasting their time! Vive le weekend!

When I hear that expression, I'm reminded of CNN's Richard Quest and his alleged response to NY's finest when they stopped him in Central Park and asked him to explain the rope around his neck and private parts, and the sex toy in his shoe. 'It is what it is!'
