Juventus accuse UEFA of anti-Italy agenda

I thought he reffed the game pretty well by and large. The pen looked pretty much nailed on live to me and even after seeing about 10 replays it is difficult to say for sure either way so basically whatever decision he made, he was going to get grief from someone. As for Buffon, I can see why he went apeshit given the emotion of the situation but again, I can totally see why Oliver gave him a red card. Oliver is probably our best referee currently which isn't saying very much I know but he did ok last night in very difficult circumstances.

UEFA directive to avoid the possibility of a Juve/Dippers semi...?

I have the say that's a great idea to copy the NFL 3 challenges per game for coaches for VAR. Getting it wrong, resulting in a loss of a challenge should also prevent abuse of this method.

Also puts more emphasis on getting important decisions reviewed in favour of a team's interests, rather than a ref's one which always seems to be rather subjective. This may not eliminate the issue entirely, but at least narrows it down to incidents which may cause the greatest impact on game which currently go unnoticed & unpunished.

It may also create some more jobs in the game by club teams hiring specialists to spot controversial incidents in real time & nudge the manager for a VAR challenge to the fourth official.
Pep would have reviewed sterling none pen at anfield and possibly the mo Salah offside goal and definitely Jesus disallowed good goal. How does 2 or three of those change the first leg. Last night Madrid pen was a free kick anywhere else on pitch so I would have gave pen. However review would have gave Oliver thinking time and give it if happy. He had one look from one side full speed. Bang . Desicion to make. He could have had four angles . Slow mo. And review few seconds of build up.......much better.
Why don't refs push for VAR it would make their job so much easier.

I agree overall VAR would take some pressure of referees when they know they have the aid of a video replay to assist them, rather than making an on the spot real time decision in the heat of the moment with many variables such as the crowd & players possibly influencing them.

However, the cynic in me believes the footballing bodies, especially UEFA will delay the introduction of VAR into the Chumps league as so forth as much as possible in order to cover up the poor standard of referees who were employed by them in the first place. i.e. its like admitting they are wrong. Also, no VAR possibly helps UEFA and co control via the refs which 'money' teams go through to the important stages where sponsorship & revenues boost their pockets & commercial awareness - something Chiellini was perhaps referring to, even though I actually thought it was a pen, albeit a soft one.

Would Atkinson get the Young foul on Sergio 'wrong' at the other end, and would he get it wrong anywhere else on the pitch? He wasn't gonna give us a pen whatever foul was perpetrated. That's not getting it wrong; it's 'selective application of the Laws of the Game'! In Boggart Hole Clough it's called 'fucking cheating! And the obvious question is whether The Bottler would be as quick to point to the spot if Smalling ran through the back of Sterling in the 94th minute of a Manchester-Stretford derby! We can be as sympathetic as we can for referees who are out of their depth attempting to apply the Laws of the Game in one of the fastest sports on the planet, played by some of the most inveterate cheats the game has known, but some decisions where speed is not a characteristic can be filed in the category of 'Highly Suspicious!'

Then argue for VAR. Because too many are happy to spout what you are saying and still don’t want VAR

if Madrid lose the semi by a dodgy given penalty should they then scream corruption ?

cant we accept Refs sometimes just get it wrong because it's f*cking impossible with 22 blokes cheating at rapid speed and the sooner VAR gets implemented the better

The problem is Madrid virtually NEVER get bad decisions. We had FOUR over 2 legs, that wouldn't happen to Madrid in 4 competitions.
