Best never told it with the valet being ironic. His story was founded in the guy being serious, but you’re probably right, as I was an utterly preposterous thing to say in the circumstances.

It’s perfectly conceivable it was never said all, of course. A chronic alcoholic making something up to pay for much of his drinking for 30 years isn’t especially far-fetched.
