11 | Jeremy Doku - 2023/24

Doku's shooting technique is top class. What he lacks is power in his shot, but in terms of placement technique there is ample evidence for his quality. Against Red Star there was a moment where his curler got blocked by an opposing player, but you could see how cleanly he strikes it. It would have been a wondergoal if the defender didn't block it. And it happens regularly with both feet. Technical shooters actually can be distinguished by the fact that they most often choose placement over power and thats what Doku does.

In terms of passing, of course hes no Guti. His through balls most of the time don't have the perfect weight, but that can be improved with experience. What doesn't improve with time is the sheer ability to see the pitch and movement of players, and pick out passes. And he has this, his vision is fantastic imo. What needs to be considered is that hes not the Ozil/Bernardo Silva type of wing playmaker, a #10 who plays on the wing. He is a pure winger, and among pure wingers he is elite with his passing ability. His passing is going to be like Hazard's, and its already very close to it. You cant be great at literally everything. In terms of passing, its his decision making thats impressive, he knows when to play the simple pass, when to make a small progressive pass, when to cross etc.

I honestly don't see what the fuss is all about this "technique problem". You don't play as a forward for City if your technique is poor. Hell you don't play forward in general if your technique is poor, his career would have been a lot different if he had poor technique, he probably would have been a fullback. But hes not. You don't get to have such close control when running with the ball if you don't have technique. Doku is basically a street footballer, thats how hes been raised. He is all about skill.
One of the exciting signings of late. I am not about putting our players against each other but his good form and positive trajectory and City will push JG to do better.

Just catching up on this thread and thankfully people have already responded to a few no nowts.

He's shown everything we expected from him and MORE! The guy is electric, he's beats men for fun and his decision making around the box / final third has been of a high level. His technique cannot be questioned either (unless we're strictly talking about ball striking which every player can improve on except Kev).

He may not run or pirouette with the same elegance of Sane, but he's shown he can be just as effective with his own style.

If there's anything that people questioned with Sane it was his attitude, consistency, sloppiness. But Doku has already shown that he's humble, a grafter, and already controls and protects the ball as well as Grealish.

If he avoids injuries he'll become world class (probably 12-18months of working with Pep).

When you spend £50m on a player its difficult to describe him as a bargain , but when you consider the Rags paid £25m more for that waster Mount , he really is a bargain , very early days but imagine how good he will be in 12 months with Pep's input into his career , if he can achieve the level's of Leroy Sane but with a better mentailty then he is potentially world class.

How about 2/3s of an Antony?
