Everton Thread - 2023/24

Accusing us of not planning properly by banking on player sales to reduce debt. Isnt that how most teams make money, player trading?

Forgive Everton for not forecasting Covid, a Russian invasion and our record signing being accused of being a nonce.

Look im not sitying here and saying we have done nothing wrong but there are mitigating factors.

1. We took a huge loss on an expensive player due to a police investigation. Not the clubs fault.

2. We had sponsorship deals lined up that fell through due to the Ukraine war and sanctions.

3. We used our own money to put towards a new stadium instead of taking out a loan with interest.

I get that point 2 you could say well this can happen to anyone but nobody expected the invasion.

Unlike the FL, the PL has no guidance or rules in place for a breach of P&S. It sets a precedent as they have just made up the punishment on the spot with a note that due to a billionaire owner, only a points deduction is punishment. So if our owner wasnt a billionaire, a fine would have done it?

How can you enforce a punishment when there are no guidelines for the punishment.

Also we have been punished more than teams who go into Administration.
Pompey got less points deducted for going into liquidation!

I've not looked into the breakdown of why ffp was failed but even with the incidents you could label as extenuating circumstances such as those mentioned above, everton will have known they were going to fail well before the figures were published. They undoubtedly would have seeked advice on whether there was any leeway available for those special circumstances and upon discovering they were still going to break the rules surely they then just use the transfer market to make sure they comply?

One of the arguments is about player sales. Covid affected the market and market rate of players. We would have been budgeting for sales but we either couldnt sell or lost money.

Now I know you can say the same for all teams but we were close to the edge anyway then covid hit, which nobody on earth could have predicted. It just compounded the issue.

If Everton’s ten points deduction was applied last season, how many teams would have finished one place higher and thus gained extra income from the premier league position payment?
Ha, the butterfly effect. The PL have now created a monster of litigation for themselves. This won't end well.

In summary. You are cheats.

If point 2 can be proved, then it's a disgrace.

Rather than trying to drag us and others down with them by bitching about monitoring other cases, wouldn’t Everton be better served trying to get other clubs like us and Chelsea on side?

But Everton went on a spending spree there wasnt any proper planning, it was like a lottery winner, madness I feel for the fans who are the ones to suffer. Clubs who were relegated have a just claim against Everton as they abided by FFP I’m sure they would also like to have a shiny new stadium to help increase they turnover but couldn’t afford it
Personally I believe the PL have almightly fucked up with this the decision should have been made last season.
