Kalvin Phillips interview in the Sunday papers

Nice lad and good player. Hung out to dry by Pep, but clearly couldn't operate as the player Pep hoped.

Anyone slagging him, the lad has achieved more in his short career than any of you will in a lifetime. Hope he goes on and has a successful club and country career elsewhere. He didn't down tools or show bad attitude, it just didn't work out.
hung out to dry by Pep? So Pep should have lowered the standards to utilize Philips when felt hes not up to play? Or pretend that anything happened with weight or WC comeback?

Why talking about coach and parent club in a way that things could have been handled in another manner. He was not forced to say this I believe. Why do not talk on the pitch? So far he cant get into West Ham line up, which by the way has been destroyed. After football career or at least after contract with City you can talk what you want as far as im concerned.

What his character has to do with anything? He did not down tools or show bad attitude its only an argument because there are players who would act otherwise.

if you are not good enough, then sorry you're not good enough it's that simple

you have to be some player to take Rodri's place in this team, Phillips even did not match up to any of the places in the first team, unlike some midfield players we have signed that were happy play left-back or centreback, Pep will work with you if you show you want to play and make you a very good cover player at left-back or centreback

We will have a tough job moving him on permanently for any kind of fee. Looked terrible again today for WestHam. One paced and clueless

What does this even mean?

It's easy to throw stones at others, and you never get slagged off by somebody doing better than you in life. I get it, we're all City fans and wanted to see Phillips do better for us. The guy is clearly at rock bottom at the moment due to a confidence crisis. We love to kick people when they're down and troll in this country, then virtue signal about mental health when somebody kills themselves. Being on 100k a week doesn't make you immune to mental health problems or able to brush off unjust criticism.

City was clearly the wrong environment for him, and Pep was out of order for handling the weight situation the way he did. I wish him well, and don't believe the tabloid headlines.

You could say the same for Pep, should he have publicly criticised his player for being a kilo overweight, or dealt with it in house?

Pep is a **** but a successful ****, so it's seen in a completely different light.
Pep is not a ****. He is intense, demanding, but as David Silva will attest when his son was born very prematurely, a compassionate man who loves his players. The fact you are willing to say this about our manager is plainly unwarranted.

100% certain he hasn't said the title of the article.

Who reads this shit never mind posts it?
What’s weird is posters will say the media talk absolute shit about us and say it’s the red top media, but are piling in on Phillips, a current City player, and say it’s all him and not the red top media.

It was obvious this was going to happen. I hope he gets his head in the right place, this transfer out of his system and gets his career back on track.

Pep uses press conferences strategically. Last season he said we couldn’t lose another game if we wanted to win the league.

It was clear he was using the media to put pressure on our players to push themselves. Heck he even used a post game press conference to challenge the fanbase to be better.

He was trying to send a firm message to Kalvin to wake him up. I don’t think he was trying to put him down.
