True, there were a shit load of extras in that episode though, the make up costs would have been high.
We only have one TV in the house, so when the missus watches it, I jump on the laptop and waste time on the internet. However it's on in the background so I can pick up on whats happening. Conversely she isn't a fan of Football so has to put up with me watching City and other games. Swings and roundabouts.
Like I said I enjoyed the first two series as I thought it was quite novel and gritty. After that, it became really tired and predictable - the same plot device of having a random Zombie appear is just lazy writing. Case in point in last nights episode where...
old mate was running along the side of the road and then all of a sudden gets bitten by a zombie who just happened to be caught in a tree. I mean really?
It's the same thing. Every week. Rinse and repeat. It is poor writing pure and simple.

A far greater percentage of all the African American characters have been killed off (Old mate T Bone or whatever he was called from the start, the prison inmates, the big american football player guy who saved the baby, old mate who got his leg eaten by the cannibals and Everybody Hates Chris). A far higher proportion then other characters...
And to those jibes about Coro, never watched an episode before in my life. It's kind of easy to avoid when it's not screened in Australia.

One character in particular had trouble falling in line with the new Ricktatorship in the Safe Zone. Carter opposed Rick's leadership, especially after the events at the end of Season 5, and even briefly formed a plan to assassinate Rick. However, this plan was extremely short-lived and the tables were turned on Carter as Rick held a gun to his head. Surprisingly Rick spared Carter's life, but he later told Morgan: "I wanted to kill him so it would be easier. So I wouldn't have to worry about how he could screw up or what stupid thing he would do next. Because that's just who he is...just somebody who shouldn't be alive now." Rick went on to state: "Somebody like that, they're gonna die no matter what," and that's exactly what happened to Carter moments later when a walker bit his face.

How he is still alive it's beyond me..

Waited all that time between series.... I should have just waited another week, as episode 1 was utterly disappointing.

Which is even worse. I could have maybe bought it that he didn't see it if it was caught in a tree, but if as you claim it wasn't it is even more laughable. Regardless, my point still remains. It is a very tired and lazy plot device. And they use it. Every. Fucking. Time.
I'll give you another example. Last season Rick hides a gun in a blender near a trash pile. Later he goes back to retrieve it and it's not there. Cue random zombie attack and this time we learn that there was actually a zombie only half a metre away in the trash pile all along, however only attacks when it is convenient to do so. Lazy writing pure and simple. It happens way more often then you think.
Even in last nights episode there were a number of really stupid and inconsistent decisions such as
- The introduction of the 'new' characters. "Hey we were just been gone for a few weeks and no one bothered to tell you, firstly who are you, why are you guarding the gate, and can you let us in?..." "Yeah no worries, I've never met you before but we're just a new group of people who have now taken over Alexandria as you guys are way too soft around here and too trusting and lack real world zombie experience, but I'll completely ignore all of that and just let you in regardless even though I've just met you and know nothing about you..."
- The inconsistency with the zombies. One minute they have super strength and it's a real struggle to fight them off, the next minute they kill themselves by walking headfirst into a wall...
- Three guys taking on a dozen zombies at that shop and dispatch them without breaking much of a sweat. A dozen zombies attack the main group and then they all shit themselves, while the dude with the stick takes most of them out single handedly...
- It's been established that the Zombies are attracted primarily to sound. When Michone had her two slave guys she was disguised by smell and they didn't attack her based purely on sight. The walls they were erecting didn't seem that strong, yet apparently it is a good idea to let off flares, which make a hell of sound, do not have a great impact during the day, from behind a not too sturdy wall and thereby attracting the zombies to what is behind the wall?
- Zombies veer off road by hearing sound of horn in the distance. However zombies stay on road after hearing people just off the road firing automatic weapons.
- In fact the whole plan was really dumb. A far easier and safer option would have been to get two people to climb two of the trucks with big sticks. And spend the day stabbing zombies in the head at a safe distance. Climb on the trucks which were not precariously placed to do this. The noise will attract the other zombies at the other blockade. Keep on doing this cull of the zombies, just enough to have a critical mass there to keep attracting the others by noise, but so that the zombie population doesn't overflow. Just like they were doing at the prison by Come back every few days and repeat the process. But no, the smarter idea is to release them, nothing could go wrong...
Approximately half the african american characters have been killed off. My point stands - a far greater proportion of the african american characters are killed off. Seems like if you're a character on this show its best to be an Asian guy as it seems 100% of them are still around...

When Tony Moore, Charlie Adlard and Robert Kirkman wrote the comics back in 2003 i'm sure they had popping off the African American guy on their minds from the off:)

Can't comment on that, haven't read them. I'm not accusing anyone of being racist, just pointing out that it seems a higher proportion of African american characters die. I'm not holding out hope for the new guy with dreads ;)
I also didn't say that I hate it. I thought it was good but became a victim of it's own success. AMC probably thought it's a cash cow and are milking it for what it's worth. It has just become really tired and repetitive. Much like Lost or Prison Break.

Another convenient plot device don't you think? Just happens to happen when they're doing the dry run? And even if the truck didn't fall down they were still planning on letting them out...
In the time it took them to erect the wall and move all those cars to form a funnel, maybe a day or two, who knows, they could have easily sent two people to climb the trucks which weren't the ones precariously placed. Climbing these two trucks and beginning the cull would have then caused a commotion to attract the other zombies at the truck that eventually fell. Would have alleviated the pressure on the truck that did fall, and buy them time to reinforce that end of the quarry. Could have just easily built a wall blocking them in, or used all the cars that they formed the funnel with to block the quarry at a pinch point, or a series of pits or trenches. They had the time.
Or seeing as low ammunition has never really been a problem just shoot them all. We know they'd be efficient as they get headshots every single time...
Or get some excess fuel and burn the fuckers, again scarcity has never been much of a problem.
Or get Michonne to create two new slaves by chopping off their jaws and arms and just walk in there and slice them all up. Or if she's not up to it get the ed headed handlebar guy or the other African american girl to do it as they both seem to have a death wish at the moment.

Heath (guy with dreads) is in the comics and the actor playing him scarcely resembles him, he's also a bit of a bad ass from what I remember.
Thing is with the African American characters being killed off its easy to say a lot die but if you add it up there's probably more white people who have been killed off its just that there's not a lot of African Americans as there are white people knocking about in the series, then again you don't tend to see that many black zombies either. The biggest question is why are most deemed fucking useless like T-Dog, Tyreese and Gabriel.
