Photography

You can take a shit picture of a sunset or a top picture of a piece of turd.

Too much editing for my liking anyway. Couldn't imagine Kevin Carter uploading his photos and adjusting the light balances on Photoshop.

The ones in my post are untouched bud, they mess with iso levels and such but i don't think that subreddit allows for photo manipulation. So the ones i posted are straight from a camera afaik but i am not a geek on it so could be wrong.

Apart from the South Stack Lighthouse.

You may be able to find a nice spot nestled in at the foot of the cliffs on the west side of Holyhead Mountain.
Was thinking of the general area, not directly facing the lighthouse, but can see your point as I wasn't too clear. The lighthouse, being so low compared to the cliff tops around there, would the light actually spill upwards that much it'd affect the shot? Genuine question to any photographers out there.

I could often see South Stack LH from where I used to live near Caergeiliog.

For long exposure stuff you can detect the glow coming from a town/city over hills, so you may get a bit from the lighthouse even thought the beams are relatively directional.

It's probably worth trying a series of shorter exposures (between the LH beams), and stack them them using software.

Anyone know any good places nearby to do astrophotography? Even the Peak District will probably have horrible glows of light pollution from Manchester/Sheffield? I have my heart set on capturing Milky Way photos!
If you don't mind a bit of a drive, lake bala is supposed to be pretty good.

Just to clear it up. I didn't say you edited your pictures or anyone else on this forum. what I meant was, what matters is the subject of your photograph, not the lighting or aperture settings.

I look at a lot of photos and think, 'meh, another photo of a deck chair on the beach or wooden hut in the woods'.

If people spent more time focusing on capturing memorable photos rather than on what's more aesthetic, I think there'd be a lot more interest in photography. I've seen photos on mobile phines which are 100 times more interesting than photos on the most digital Canon cameras.

I agree mate, although I think you slightly underestimate the ability of the very best photographers to take the mundane and through brilliant composition, make it look interesting.

FWIW I've been into photography now for 38 years, having got my first SLR is 1979 and had countless cameras from pretty much every manufacturer. I am a physics grad and studied optics as part of my degree course, so I understand the mechanics of photography, thoroughly.

The reason I say this, is so that people will understand when I say, I am also a CRAP photographer. My pictures may be technically sound, but compositionally - aesthetically - I have not got a clue. Never have had, never will have. Sadly.
