Do we need a hard man in midfield?

The Old guard had the spirit to win - Yaya, Aguero, Zaba, Kompany, Hart, Silva. Mancini gave the team a siege mentality when he realized that the entire system - the refs, FA and the media wanted to see us lose. Sometimes a little conspiracy theory could help unite and strengthen the teams mentality, right now we don't have an ideology or theory to rally round and that why the players have this "win or lose it doesn't change a thing" attitude.

We can't be solely reliant on him but Jesus seems to have that win at all costs attitude in him, hope it rubs off on a few of the others. Sooner or later though the powers that be will have to replace YaYa and a hard nut with an eye for a pass would complement Silva, Kdb etc. Hate to say it but Fernandinho isn't the answer for the future either.

We need two new central midfielders - we've lost the grit we used to possess in the likes of Barry and De Jong. Yaya for all his quality has never really enjoyed defending or the donkey work that goes with it, whilst Fernandinho is on the wane and has generally had quite a poor season.

Ultimately we need some fighters, the likes of tevez and Bellamy... tenacious fuckers.

We also need clever hard men, the Italians defend so well and are as dirty as shit but get away with it. Subtle trips, pulls and kicks and really get into the psyche of the opponents.

It's a combination of the not so pretty things as well...it will help us to close out games.

Not a hard man. A leader, a winner, a never say die, blood on the shirt, driving his team mates on and running as hard in the 94th minute as he does in the 4th-type. That's what we need.

Veratti is the only one I can think of with that attitude and good enough technique to play for Guardiola. Maybe Fabinho.
