Cruise ships

PistonBlue If you have a chance and like seafood go to the market in Malaga and try the deep fried seafood at the small café inside the market Absolutely the bollocks
As for not knowing what to expect Imagine a five star hotel that moves from city to city with theatre, piano bars, bistros, discos, high end restaurants, swimming pools, ice cream parlours, cafes, coffee shops, casinos shopping and much more and you are almost there

Enjoy

So just got back a couple of weeks ago. All I can say is wow, absolutely loved it. Didn't get to the seafood cafe on Malaga, that first day was a bit hectic. But the cruise (Thomson) I just couldn't fault for anything, the staff, the food, drinks, people we met all great. Much better than a regular holiday for us, and we had a five year old with who loved it too. Thomson kids club is a god send and they really look after the kids. Your description Seasideblue was spot on and we will definitely be cruising again.

Know people who go on cruises and they all enjoy it. Personally, I think I would develop a phobia by being stuck on a small floating island for that long :)

A lot of my friends go on cruises and seem to thoroughly enjoy it. I like the idea of getting off and going and seeing a different place each day, say, one of those Med cruises, but unless there was a cycle track round the top deck I just wouldn't be interested. And I expect yer'd come back two stone heavier. I'd more than likely go on one of those Fred Olsen cruises where they say that if yer don't like it they'll fly yer home.

And then there's the soul-destroying, spirit-sapping, holiday-kiboshing chance of meeting a FOC from CBL3.

Funny you mention a cycle track, Carnival Vista that we went on last September has the very thing, they call it Skyride. That ship is now permanently sailing the Caribbean now though. Carnival has a new ship launching next year called the Horizon and that also will have the Skyride on. I believe they are doing a short Med itinerary next Spring before that too goes back to the USA.

Regarding sailing with Fred Olsen then the clientele on there would make the FOC's seem like sprightly teenagers ;)

Another convert Glad you enjoyed it pal The typical beach holidays lose their appeal after a few cruises IMO obviously

I can recommend a cruise on Coniston water on the steam vessel Gondola.

No quoits, casino or dining at the captain's table though :-(

Done over a dozen now and love them But I am not a beach holiday kind of person Normally go all inclusive so never had a problem with having alcohol taken off me.
As has been mentioned waking up in a different country/city every morning is brilliant The downside of this is that you do not get a long time in some of the cities although many cruise lines have now overcome this problem by staying overnight in some places (st Petersburg etc)
My solution to this is to find the itinerary I like and extend the holiday either end with a few extra nights for example my next cruise is from Singapore to Hong Kong staying at Thailand Vietnam China
So I am flying to Singapore staying in Singapore for 3 nights, board the ship and cruise for two weeks, disembark in Hong Kong , have 3 nights in Hong Kong, then fly back to the uk with a 3 night stopover in Dubai
You can basically do the same at almost any itinerary with a little planning
Who did you book that with i am looking to do a similar itenary in Feb .what sort of price am i looking at cheers for any info

I booked it individually. Cruise with ncl the flights through skyscanner and the hotels direct If I recall it cost about £2200 per person As for going in Feb not sure as I have had a quick look and cant see any with the same itinerary

http://www.cruisetimetables.com/ is quite good for looking for itineraries without being bombarded with spam and ads.

Give me a shout if you need any further info.

Booked on Ventura in August. Portugal and Spain. 4th cruise in as many years. Hop on the Manc-Bournemouth train at Coventry, easy peasy. Love cruising.
