Think this one will run for a bit now we apparently have Alves.

Although he wont probably wont be first choice if we sign Walker Alves is more than capable of playing the first 3/4 games on the bounce so we can sit and sweat Levy out with an unhappy player.

£45m in today's mkt is not bad for an English defender given what we paid for Stones and Sterling and given the way the market has gone since then. Sounds bonkers on one level but I think its true

Only problem is the writer of the £45m for the Star is Jeremy Cross, who wrote a piece three weeks back saying we'd agreed a fee for Walker.

45 million actually is bad business.
1. Its about 15 million above the FB transfer record.
2. Its for a 27 year old player who is good but not exceptional.
3. He is not indespensible to his team.

If we can't get a deal btw 20-30 million we should walk away.

£45m is too much to be spending on Walker, even in today's market.
If the reports are to be believed, the club was haggling over the £39.5m fee for Mendy, who is much younger and an all-round better player.

You think everything is bad business.

The "FB transfer record" is about to become £39m when we sign Mendy, so it'll actually only be £6m more.

"Good but not exceptional" is your opinion, and @Dax777's opinion is unlikely to factor into City or Spurs' valuation of the player. If our scouts + coaches thinks he is exceptional then your point 2 becomes moot immediately. He is, by consensus, the best RB in the country, he is one of Spurs' best players, he is one of very few English players who are good enough to start for us. So he is actually exceptional.

You'r saying 20-30m just to be contrarian. No one who follows football as much as you do actually thinks that's a realistic, or fair valuation in today's market.

Where are we going to walk away to ?

45m is a good price as we're buying 3 items at once:
- the player himself
- 1 free foreign spot
- a solution for out HG spots

Given we will have too many foreign players to register which English players would you like us to sign? Whether you like it or not it's a factor

We have to go for the best available if we want to Win the league and UCL in the near term. It will build the profile of the club, and the transfer investment will be rewarded ten fold with sponsorship deals.
