This is the only sentence you need to read:

"It’s just that it is a transfer that is a symbol of the headlong profligacy that has gripped our football."

Forget the fake platitudes - the overriding aim here is to make Kyle Walker the symbol of crazy spending (and the associated "all that is wrong with modern football").

When a journalist goes to such lengths to twice state he is unbiased and not targeting an individual player or club then you can bet your bottom dollar he is.

If he had confidence that what he was writing was fair, balanced and with editorial merit then he should just trust his conviction - there would be no need for him to desperately push his impartiality...

Ollie, thou doth protest too much...
So Lou Kacku and Pogbad don't count?

Imagine for a second that we'd signed Pogbad and he put in the same shitty performances for us last season. The press gobshites (we all know who) would have slated us.

What do you mean by that, mate?

I seriously doubt whether any of them actually believe in any of the shit that's printed, but them believing in it is not the point. The point is does their work help to shift copy and drive revenues and keep them in a job so that they can pay the bills. I think that most of them are just guys on the hamster wheel doing the day job, making sure that their material is compliant to the editorial and doing whatever it takes to keep their publication relevant and the boss happy and in the knowledge that if not - they would be binned and replaced in an instant. Who wants to be unemployed?

Ollie Holt for example, Stockport lad and all that, could well see the rags as a bunch of utter twats followed by an even bigger bunch of millions of utter twats nationwide and beyond. But he will also know that his "job" is to contribute to a Disney-like rag reality when "reporting" anything to do with the rags so that those attached to the Disney club see nice things being written which gives them a sense that their Disney-club is in fact real and are therefore happy to spend their money on Holt's product.

So the question naturally follows that if you were a trade journalist in this position, and a City fan, Mooner, etc etc - would you be an out-of-work journalist or be happy to write any old shit for the moronic masses?

In fairness to the journo's (I know, there are one or two beyond the pale) things have moved on, and print media isn't king anymore. There is now more emphasis placed on advertising revenue, and click bait is the prime driver. The more controversial the story, the bigger the revenue from click bait.

So basically the journo's are prostituting themselves.
