Whether people like what I am saying or not here, I honestly couldn't give a shit...
Looking at PSG and Manchester City before this window, teams such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid probably didn't take us seriously, especially competing in the champions league. Looking at last season PSG lost the league to a side assembled on a pretty small budget and lost in that thrilling game v Barca in the dying seconds. Especially that night in Barcelona was the turning point for their owner. He must have been thinking to himself that for all the money spent, I am not reaping the benefits from it in terms of properly competing on the champions league stage. PSG have only ever been to the quarter finals and for a team with their financial power, it isn't good enough. The owner has gone about his business in a ruthless fashion this window with the main objective in mind to win the champions league at all costs. He has completely shook the footballing world by paying Neymars buyout clause and taking him from arguably the most glamorous football powerhouse in the game. He has humiliated them and shown the footballing world just how powerful his money can be. Now he is getting the next biggest french talent who looks destined to be a star from the clutches of the other big superpower, Real Madrid. The statement of intent shown here has been utterly mindblowing.
As for City, I think our business has been superb this summer, but I just feel we could have gone the extra mile for Mbappe to set the same intent as PSG did with Neymar. In the nine years or so the Sheikhs have been here, we have not really come close to champions league silverware, we haven't really challenged much given the amount we have spent. We haven't won a premier league for 3 seasons and for a club like us that are going places, it is dissatisfying. I do think with Pep though, we are entering a new era and we are building a very good side for the future, but I still think our board should push the boat out and go that extra mile to give pep what his squad needs.
The best thing for PSG was the huge wake up call they received last season from losing the league and dropping out of the champions league in extraordinary fashion, but they have certainly come out all guns blazing with the shackles off this summer.
