The point is not how good Messi is. It's how old he is.

It's potty, but nevertheless justifiable if you pay £200m for a player who you might have playing for you for 5 years and who you then sell for not much less than you paid. If PSG were to do that with Neymar and you work out the annualised cost, it's perhaps not that bad.

But if we paid say £200m for Messi, we'd get 2 good years out of him, 3 max. And then sell him at a huge loss.

It's a completely different proposition. As another poster said, 2 or 3 years ago yes no brainer. But now he's 30? No, not imo. Not unless we got him for a relatively low price.
It's already been explained that this deal is self-financing. Look back a few posts.

If we only signed players who we would sell for what we signed them for or more then we would have signed about three senior players since the takeover. We could bring in enough extra revenue directly from having messi at the club to make it cost effective even if we let him go on a free at the end of his time at the club.

Think of the sponsorship/commercial deals we could strike up if we signed Messi. We really wouldn't lose that much on him even at £200m.

Add to that, even if we get 3 years out of him (I think we'd get 5), in those 3 years we might get 3 premier league titles and maybe a Champions League or 2.

It's a no brainer really.

What nonsense.

It's Messi. CR is 32 and still banging them in. Zlatan is 35 and still bagged about 30 goals last season.

2 good years? 3 max? Do you understand the level that Messi plays at? You don't go from scoring 50+ goals per season to utter crap two years later mate. It's MESSI. He's the best player on the planet and this would be the best possible transfer our club could get, make no mistake. Not to mention the deal would pay for itself 5 times over with the ridiculous media appeal he brings, as well as the trophies he'd help us win.

Not gonna happen, sadly, but madness that anyone could actually think this would be bad business.

City have denied it, it was never on! Let's talk about realistic signings and not some fantasy that journos made up because they want clicks in there website.
You stick to the harsh reality of Jonny fucking Evans then. I'd rather live in the deluded world of the messi thread.
