I think you'll find the big european cities clubs have always been the richest and most successful.

It's exactly the opposite.

Clubs based in the largest European cities (London, Paris, Berlin, Istanbul, Moscow) have actually won the European Cup/CL only once between them.

Clubs from provincial cities like Nottingham, Dortmund, Birmingham,Porto and Rotterdam have won it on numerous occasions.
