Martin Samuel in the mail today, reporting that Utd, Lpool, Ars directors at a dinner in New York, discussing potential breakaway from the PL. City, Spurs, Chelsea uninvited. Seemed to be urging City to steer clear of that particular Red revolution, as they are just after keeping all the money away from the smaller clubs

Not sure about this as David Gill would have been prominent at the meeting.

If there is any truth in this, it's interesting that these clubs should still feel that they have sufficient clout to force this issue. Looking at the teams not invited, if they refused to entertain the idea, it would be dead in the water. To have any chance of succeeeding, the plan would have to involve Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern. Barca and Bayern would go along with it as Barca are pissed off at PSG and Bayern are a fading power like the rags. I'm not sure about Real Madrid given the source of their stadium loans.

I'm not sure that the rags, Liverpool and Arsenal have appreciated their new status.

Makes sense really because they can only trade on their historical success for a few seasons then the PL will have defined its real winners.
Breakaway is the last resort of those attending the meeting if they are to retain their image as winning teams. The media are already ignoring us and the PL is fast becoming a title to be won without the favourite, horse racing style.
The press will surely follow their readership towards the new league despite a quality dip and the media can then fantasy compare as they do in pre season without actually having to play a real game.

33 articles down the sports section the premier league leaders get their first mention in the DM and it's slagging us off for the travel attire the players have been 'made to wear

They're bricking it! Right now if you're a kid watching football at the moment you want to be a city fan, rags have turned to the peg to try and steal a title out of sheer panic same way Madrid did when pep was bossing la liga. Mourinho has this horrible habit of tarnishing the clubs he coaches, leaves a bad taste in your mouth because of the way he carries himself. Arsenal and the dippers?? How are they relevant? They are the 5th or 6th best side in the league. Who cares what they think?

Never heard of readsport and I doubt many others have previously on this forum, so lets not make it out to be representative of the media. Stupid not to include us but their commercial choices. Be interesting to find out their reasons though.

I have not heard of readsport either, but this article was on msn.com, which is owned by Microsoft, they have more followers than the Rags!!!
