Dropped 3 years ago to save £10m per year.

Result?

massive increase in untaxed vehicles. Cost to government ? £107m over 3 years.

Brilliant ! Predictable but brilliant move by HMG in its drive to cut waste and save taxpayers money......

The next move is to exempt the estimated 162,000 cars on the road built pre-1960 to be exempt from the MOT test. The reason? Old cars are looked after and travel so little - wait until the first 50's Ford Pop ploughs into a bunch of kids on a crossing because nobody had looked at the brakes for 15 years .........

Still it will cut red tape for those vintage car owners and save the Govt money like these things always do...

If this is true, have the numbers with no insurance also rocketed?

To be fair, printing snide tax discs would be a doddle anyway, with modern technology.
Has technology vaulted forward in the last 3 years,it was pretty nailed on that when a visible tax disc was abandoned by the dreamers we have in power some would see it as a green light not to pay. The police used to check tax disc's think that little task was taken away from them.
