Was he as great as the media portrays?
Sure, he was in a different Era before managers were fired for players downing tools or just simply being in the relegation zone for too little long.
His main success was at one club. It was relatively easy once he had won a couple of titles to attract the best players and they generally had the most to spend on players making them the strongest team most seasons.
Considering how many seasons United were in Europe, he only won 3 European titles (CWC and 2 x CL). However, he only managed in the UK.
He never challenged himself by trying going abroad and learning a different language, which he could have maybe in the late 90's/early 2000's once he had won everything at least once. Also, didn't bring many players through after the 'Class of '92'.
Is he overrated ?
