The Best Defence In The Premier League: Can The Pundits Try To Explain What's Gone Wrong?

If the rags were in our position, what do you reckon the odds of the last graphic in this table being amended to 'last 17' be?

I’ve been banging on about this for years, we’ve seen it before with Barcelona, Bayern and to a lesser extent Dortmund in the Champions League. They’ve got squads very similar to ours (Messi being the exception) in terms of quality but their work rate has embarrassed us. We’ve always had one or two players who just haven’t had the hunger, the legs or both in some players cases and you have to press as a team.

You just can’t afford a weak link. I’ve seen people trying to justify the inclusion of certain players because they’re brilliant on the ball but if they’re not prepared to graft or haven’t got the legs then it hurts the teams chances of regaining possession. Then you hear shit about breaking teams down who ‘park the bus’ to justify the brilliant players inclusion, well yet again Bournemouth were broken down by us regaining possession just outside their box and then being disorganised because of it.

Tin hat on.

They all laughed and mocked when he said he'd love to play with 11 midfielders. Well if it werent for otta and walker he probably would be

Henry is the first pundit to see the obvious that even the Rags best player couldn't get in our team cos he's limited.
Great shot stopper behind a 10 man defence.

I’d agree with that. Great goal keeper and had some great characteristics but not the ones pep looks at first. Shot stopping is a last resort and doesn’t get to that very often.

Honestly reckon the number one reason is Ederson's willingness to charge out, it completely nullifies the ball over the top and forces teams to try and pass through us, which they can't do. Gives us that confidence to push up really high as well and make the pitch smaller. Compare that to "the greatest keeper of all time" who won't even come and get things on the edge of his 6 yard box and you see how much pressure it takes off the defence.
