VAR (PL introduction 2019)

What they should do is put it back in the managers and players hand by giving them 2 options of a video review if they felt a decision has been diabolical that way managers can’t moan after the game about refereeing decision because they had that option to change it and if they choice wrongly it’s down to them.

We have it over and it really is a joke, totally arbitrary when it is used and the crowd await its implementation for every goal. Not the answer in its present format, from the experience here it's got a place for offside decisions leading to a goal, but other than that "clear and obvious mistakes" has proved to be farcical.
Which league are you talking about? A-league?

Yes mate, A league. This weekend we watched a game and Massimo Maccaroni remember him from Middlesbrough days was playing, he went elbows first back to the ball and jumped into Santalaab opposition striker will n the box. Real time the commentators said that's a pen, Santallab has blood pouring from his mouth and replays show it was a challenge with NO intent or idea where the ball was. Apparently it was reviewed, who decided nobody knows and deemed not an clear and obvious mistake, well may as well pack up then. Who or what decides this nobody can work out, this includes commentators, pundits. Cannot be the way forward for our game. It's a joke seriously.

It's a nice idea, but as the Juve/Torino derby fiasco recently showed, the system will still be at the mercy of the pig headed officials involved. In case you missed it, Juve scored, Torino objected because there had been a clear foul in the build up, the ref reviewed it on the VAR and, despite the aforementioned foul having been absolutely blatant, incredibly decided to uphold his original decision to give a goal. As we've also seen with the Lukaku 'kick in the cobblers' non-ban, the VAR will be a waste of time, because it will be open to ridiculous interpretation. Last minute at the Swamp, Aguero gets scythed down by De Gea in the box, and City play their appeal. Can you honestly see Madley, Taylor, Jones et al, awarding us a penalty on review? Not a chance

Might this explain why the decision was made? It wasn’t in the same attacking phase? I haven’t seen it by the way

Disagree its been a huge issue throughout every league its been trialled in and ive still not heard one way it can be solved.

Fine if you want var but dont act like it wont change the game in a very big way.

It will be intersting to see whether Seria A continue with it next season as the likes of Buffon, Inzaghi and other coaches have come out against it.

It's only just been introduced so obviously it will have a big initial impact this impact will reduce year on year whilst the rules are flexed around it.
I'm sure people complained about the offside rule back in 1863 that it affected the flow of the game. Every year since there have been tweaks to it to make it better suited to the game, VAR is in a similar position. We can either sit here and keep moaning about shit ref decisions or actually try to do something about it and make progress

Obviously Serie A teams have come out against it how else are they going to make sure the betting rings make their money. If there was one league that would be against it it's that one

And how many times has VAR worked perfectly in Serie A must be quite a lot now or are you just going to quoting the one negative result?

If you watch on the tele you’ve already been watching VAR for years in the form of TV replays, most people after watching a replay can decide what the correct call should’ve been. The problem will arise with who interprets the decisions, like on BT when the ex refs come on and say pen or no pen, or the twats who couldn’t decide to ban Lakaku for his double kick. The ruling powers don’t want technology to come in and take away their power so they can continue to deliberately fuck things up for some teams and carry on ruling in the favour of other teams. That’s why they resisted goal line technology for years and years.

I watch bundasliga and Serie A quite often and theres issues with it every week.

Thought James Richardson the person who used to host the European football show on BT Sport (who was initially for VAR) summed it up best, "if you view football as entertainment then VAR will be death".

They can trail and tweak it for as many years at they want but imo the free flowing nature of football will make it impossible to implement without it severely changing the nature of the game.
