How many points to win the league?

A little update:

Current table (all played 24):
City 65 +52
United 53 +33
Chelsea 50 +29
Liverpool 47 +25
Spurs 45 +25
Arsenal 42 +14

City's remaining fixtures:
Home - WBA, Leicester, Chelsea, Brighton, United, Swansea, Huddersfield
Away - Burnley, Arsenal, Stoke, Everton, Spurs, West Ham, Southampton

Going off the same (pessimistic) predictions for our fixtures that I made last week, let's hypothetically say our home matches go 5W, 2D and our away matches go 2W, 3D, 2L, or a combined 7W, 5D, 2L for 26 points. That's 2.42 and 1.29 points per game home and away, respectively. This season, we're averaging 2.83 and 2.58 points per game at home and away, respectively.

These results would see us finish on 91 points, and most likely owning a better goal difference than the rest of the league, so any challenger would likely need 92 points to beat us to that. That would mean:

The rags need 39 of a possible 42 points.
Chelsea need 42 of a possible 42 points.
Liverpool, Spurs, and Arsenal cannot finish higher than 89, 87, and 84 points each, respectively.

Basically, we still have a very big margin for error while our competition has next to none.

If ever proof was needed you can't make assumptions about how many points may or may not be enough then last night's game was it.

What I do think is fair to assume, is that if we keep our key players fit then we are the best team in the league and should continue to roll at a pace others will do well to keep up with let alone bridge the gaps.

I'm sure United and Chelsea (and anyone else we remotely think still have a sniff) will all win games between now and the end of the season we had reasonable hope they may lose. Their all just as likely to drop a bollock as Liverpool did last night. It's in our DNA to be cautious but the law of averages are hugely on our side right now.
Don’t forget Liverpool raised there bar against us and will not be able to do that game in game out. It pisses me off when people say we’re showing signs of being caught . That was a performance of a lifetime from Liverpool which very nearly didn’t come off ( 5 mins more and we would have drawn) . That is the class that we are showing . Utd are miles behind us at the moment hence the panic buy of Sanchez. The way they are talking they have suddenly caught us up and are the major force again ha. Gonna take more than a greedy 29 year old to turn them round

Over the next month or so we will see some interesting games. The teams in the lower half are really compacted together so getting wins at home will be a must which will play into our hands. Coming to the Etihad teams will be happy to get a point so we will continue to see Jose-esque bus parking. We may well end up winning all our away games and dropping a few points at home. Regardless, we are stepping closer and closer to the Title with each passing game. 88 or 89 points will smash it.

Just keep chalking the victories up. Couple of things, we can't rely on other teams for favours( nor should we but would be nice) and there will be some unpredictable results along the way.

Every single point the Rags drop now just makes it closer for us. All it takes is that first drop of points and other losses/draws will follow.
A Spurs away loss for them and us beating WBA will really deflate them.
