Seriously, just look at the age of our squad now, given how ancient it was just 18 months ago. People talk about how much we've spent, but we've built the base of a team for the next 5+ years now whilst dominating in the short term as well, it's incredible.

Ederson 23
Walker 27
Mendy 23
Stones 23
Laporte 23
Gundogan 27
De Bruyne 26
Bernardo 23
Sane 22
Sterling 23
Jesus 20

That's obviously not quite our ideal starting 11, but they are all 27 or younger an already bossing this league. The future is very bright indeed, from here on out we'll only need to add a player here and there, we've set ourselves up perfectly for the future

That’s fucking scary reading for the rest of the world.
And Dave is good to go for at least another 2/3 years as well!

Average age of 23 years and 6 months.

The future is most definitely Blue, but it's not rocket science, just common sense in how to build a team. Look at those clowns over the road, throwing fortunes at has been's these last few years.

What we've basically got ourselves into for the first time in my life is a situation where we don't need to buy anyone. Sure, there are plenty of players it would be nice to have, but we've arguably got every position (except DM) covered for the next 5 years. That's gotta put us in an extremely strong position in the transfer market. It means we can focus our efforts on identifying the next big thing rather than desperately plugging gaps in the squad every year at hugely inflated prices.

Of course, this is probably slightly too optimistic. It assumes that all of those players will develop as hoped. But even if they don't we might be surprised by others (maybe Foden or Diaz) taking on the mantle.

Also hopefully the likes of Foden, Diaz and Maffeo can kick on and make it in the team too.

The average age of our squad comes up quite regularly on BM and last time turned into a discussion of mean median and mode plus some other measures I hadn't heard of.

But the fact remains that however you measure it we do not have a young squad. We HAD the oldest in Europe and it's a lot younger in comparison.

But an average mean age of a typical European squad is 26.5 ours is still 27.1 while our starting 11 is 26.9

We are almost exactly the same as United who are considered an old squad also at 27.1

Admittedly we could reach a normal average age of 26.5 easily by losing Yaya and Bravo and replacing with a couple of 26 year olds.

The only thing I can think of is that our stars are a little younger than the average for the most part.

Age doesn't matter for some footballers. Silva can play for another 5 years given how little he relies on pace, and Fernandinho could seriously play until he was 40 (if he wasn't a footballer, he'd be a 5000m runner). The only player I worry about age catching up to is Aguero.
