The player X is 6,7,8,9,10 years older than player Y arguments never really work in practice.

Xavi was 12 years older than Thiago, but it didn't matter because at the end of the day, when Thiago was 20/21/22 and needed to be a starting player, Xavi was still in his way, stopping him playing.

Should Foden be as good as everyone thinks he will be, he'll need to be starting a considerable amount of games (like 40%+) by about 2021/22. If we can't give him that big role in the squad, he'll go somewhere else, despite being a lifelong City fan, just like Thiago did.

That doesn't mean we can't get Isco, it just means that at some point we're going to have to make some tough decisions if Foden turns out to be as good as hoped.
