You wouldn’t think it, but the diameter of a basketball hoop is within a fraction of an inch of being twice the diameter of a basketball.
 
I didn’t know this till yesterday but in The Great Escape, when they filmed the scene with Steve McQueen on the motorcycle, they used a stunt double when he was trying to jump the barbed wire into Switzerland. However McQueen was actually one of the following Germans.
Despite the film there were no Americans involved in the Great Escape.
 
Only 3 of the smoke stack chimneys on Titanic worked. The 4th was purely for decoration.
 
Tyrannosaurus Rex was extant closer to the present day than it was to Stegosaurus.
Cleopatra was alive closer to the present day than she was the building of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

When the star Betelgeuse explodes (it's the orangey looking one at Orion's shoulder), it will be brighter than the moon at night, and easily visible in broad daylight for about 2-3 months, despite being around 640 light years away.
