Meaningless / throwaway expressions

"If I'm being honest..." No keep lying to yourself and everyone else please.

"To be fair" you're not being fair you're just disagreeing with yourself to keep this terribly boring conversation alive.

"My thing is" of course it's your thing, you're saying it.

"You alright then" thanks for the enthused greeting, let's just pretend not to recognise each other

Good, good, good and good.

I've found dialogue quite easy to write so expressions people say without thinking about them first are really welcome. I was thinking management speak too like "touch base" etc. Maybe put it in to a monologue.

There is already a management speak thread.

I launched it some time ago and it was recently reprised.

You might find some ideas to chew on, mull over and run up the flagpole.

Alternatively you may wish to kick them into the long grass.

Let's get it squared away. (how do you square something?)
No Worries (who's worrying??)
Touch base. (hate that saying)
Just wanted to reach out.

However I love idioms with origin.

It's in the bag.
All hands on deck
3 line whip
brass monkeys
learn the ropes
give me a hand
plumb the depths
toe the line
pipe down
in the same boat
hard lines

I say, it is what it is a lot which makes me a horrible **** but well it is what it is, isnt it.

If you're specifically looking at the ones of nautical origin, there are hundreds - reflective of our maritime history. And they're often not so obvious by and large (which is an example itself).

Haha, I'm struggling to think of ones without nautical origin. Many seem to be from hunting as well.

I'll stop saying no worries when everyone else stops apologising unnecessarily all the time!

Not picking on your post just trying to promote synergy.

Also I Don't know if anyone else really does this but I do and I hate it. I add "actually" into pretty much every sentence. "Actually,I will have a drink" "Actually, I agree with you" it's so dumb and it's pretty much a tick at this point.
