I manage IT Helpdesk for a charity called Historic Royal Palaces, covering Hampton Court Palace, Tower of London, Kensington Palace, Banqueting House in Whitehall, Kew Palace and now Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland

Excuse my ignorance, but what's a lobbyist?

Someone who tells politicians what to think about their area.
ie Currys favours in order to make sure that the rules , regulations and projects suit them.

A lobbyist is someone employed by big business/pharma/energy etc (usually in secret) to offer bribes to law and policy makers so they pass legislation that favours the business in question.

Well, as someone that has lobbied on behalf of child welfare, I would object to that broad label. We visited with politicians who would be receptive to support legislation that helped our cause, and gave them information so they could make policy and convince others. Yes, some lobbying is professional bribery. But much of it is about helping good people support good issues.
