Real Madrid post match post mortem

There's no shame going out to Real on penalties after dominating. Feels like by far the most acceptable way to go out. Fair play to Ancelotti he knows what's he's doing!

    31 | Ederson - 2023/24

This isn't my most insightful post ever but: I love Ederson. What a crazy icon we've got in goal.

Is Rodri better than Yaya ?

For me as a 30 something I think Aguero is "the greatest player" I've seen. But I think if you scored all the attributes of every City player ever and added them up Rodri would have the highest score - just to give a bit of context to my opinion. He'd be one of the best passers, dribblers...

    27 | Matheus Nunes - 2023/24

Obviously bought for a more transition-based gameplan (note how kovacic, nunes and gvardiol are exceptional dribblers) than we've ended up playing, as we returned to total control. There's simply less breaking, running and bursts to do in these tactics. A similar situation to Grealish and...

Is Rodri better than Yaya ?

Pound for pound Rodri is the best (or at least most rounded) player we've ever had. What's he bad at? What's he even not world class at for that matter?

    Rodri, Phil and one other

At this point I actually think a 4-2-3-1 with foden at 10 works better than any other formation. Get kova, rico, nunes, bernardo or even Kev alongside Rodri depending on the opponent. Then bring in Bruno Guimares and absolutely dominate with those 2 at the base of midfield.

    27 | Matheus Nunes - 2023/24

Still wouldn't be shocked if he's an important part of the team next year. Its not like when he plays he's way below the level, just needs a few more opportunities here and there.

    47 | Phil Foden - 2023/24

Should have been De Bruyne off and Foden with Doku and Grealish either side. Weird subs today for KDB to spam one cross at haaland who'd never win the aerial battle anyway

    18 | Stefan Ortega - 2023/24

Conversely I'd argue Eddie actually makes tons of great saves but is always more known for his relaxed approach to being pressed and maybe the best distribution a keeper has ever had. Pound for pound Ederson might be the best keeper in the world, I'm not sure I'd make that argument for Ortega...

    9 | Erling Haaland - 2023/24

I love Haaland but he's much closer to being this generations Falcao than Messi or Ronaldo. Needs to turn up in a big game at the business end of the season. I'm more confident of Foden or Rodri scoring an important goal at this point. Unbelievable striker but he's got to start grabbing these...

    27 | Matheus Nunes - 2023/24

He'll just get minutes on the wing until Pep is fully convinced he's got our tactics down for build up and pressing in the middle. I still think he's going to be a massive asset to us in years to come.

    27 | Matheus Nunes - 2023/24

Think Paqueta will play much deeper than him in the long run. Nunes will likely end up something similar to Gundogan in role imo

    27 | Matheus Nunes - 2023/24

Its interesting how many times this season he's ended up playing a false 9 role, Pep clearly likes him for his bursts towards the box. Fascinating player, could go so many ways.

    24 | Joško Gvardiol - 2023/24

I honestly don't remember a center back that was as good as Gvardiol at 21. If he keeps improving he will be an all timer.

It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

If you see Foden and Alvarez as 2 floating 10s expect to see Grealish and Walker as the widest players.

Kalvin Phillips | On loan at West Ham

Stones has been as out of favour as Phillips is before now. I can't really say if he can reach our level or not, or at least be enough to contribute but I do think Phillips at his Leeds peak could have been enough to offer something for us. Wouldn't be shocked if he's gone tomorrow but also...

It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

With so many questions about where to play Foden, Bernardo, Kovacic even Alvarez I don't think the targets need to be particularly similar. For me I'd keep foden as far up the pitch as possible and sign Nunes.

    31 | Ederson - 2023/24

In my stand he's pinging it like prime Pirlo and not even getting a clap as we're so used to it. Probably the best passing goalkeeper ever, I think he'll only be appreciated by some after he's gone

    47 | Phil Foden - 2023/24

Give him the keys, could be Foden's team for the best part of a decade. He'll make the space for Haaland and find him with the assists too. Find another winger and let Phil play centrally, as the most advanced creative midfielder forever.

It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Worth bearing in mind if Pep keeps the 4-2-4/4-2-3-1 he's started the season with the KDB replacement is arguably already foden/Alvarez and we'll likely be looking for a more all-round midfielder in a Paqueta/Bellingham/Barella mould Which would explain the lack of interest in Wirtz/Felix/Kudus...
