Lack of pace on the wings

Pep is one of, if not the best manager in the world, he's not an idiot and will see the issues with this season. For me I do think pace and width is a big issue for us currently. Walker is aging and will need replacing sooner rather than later (perhaps ready made with Lewis, but yet to see...

    9 | Erling Haaland - 2022/23 Performances

I'd say we are performing less well, rather than poorly, and not because of Haaland, but because we're in a transitional period as I said (and the fact its one of those odd seasons given the World Cup like you say, reminds me of the season Leicester won, or Liverpool). We're adapting to a lot...

    9 | Erling Haaland - 2022/23 Performances

    Last season goals vs (this half seasons goals): KDB 15 -> (3) Sterling 13 -> (Grealish 1) Mahrez 11 -> (1) Foden 9 -> (7) Gundogan 8 -> (2) Jesus 8 -> (Alvarez 3) Silva 8 -> (3) Rodri 7 -> (1) I don't think I've seen a single post complaining about Haaland or suggesting he's a problem, his...

    9 | Erling Haaland - 2022/23 Performances

His goals and passion are amazing. But think you'd be hard pressed to claim we've been a better team since he's joined. Feels like we are still in a bit of a transition period when it comes to style of play and how to best function with him up top. Seen it click a few times such as against...

    Pep Guardiola - 2022/23

Still not a fan of the Grealish/Mahrez combo with no proper full backs. Totally lack pace and width. Think we need to try something different, especially at home against these defensive sides, we seem pretty predictable and one paced.

Everton (H) | Post Match Thread

Reality is we just haven't been that good this season. Especially at home in some of our "easier" fixtures. We need to improve significantly to really push for another title. Still doable, but not how we are currently playing.

Match Thread | Leeds vs Man City (28/12/22)

Amazing how comfortable he has been in midfield, he has been passed to in some pretty rough positions (which I guess shows the faith the others have in him) where I've thought "uh oh", yet he's took a touch and a nice turn to get some space, or played really quick passes round the corner. Only...

    Argentina v France - Sun 18th Dec, 15:00 | Final | World Cup 2022

Very unlikable character on the pitch, but he is ridiculously good, and his self confidence is evident, never for a moment looked like missing any of those penalties. Happy for Messi and Alvarez, Argentina were the better team.

Match Thread | FC Copenhagen vs Man City (11/10/22)

Mahrez scores 70% of his penalties. Gundogan scores 88%. Still can't understand why Mahrez takes them for us, he's really poor statistically compared to most.

    10 | Jack Grealish - 2022/23 Performances

He's like the antithesis of Mahrez, I always enjoy watching him play, he usually plays well and seems to do a lot right, but just doesn't get the goals/assists. Whereas not uncommonly Mahrez will throw a stinker but pop up with a goal. Got a few "pre-assists" today like Silva used to for us...

Utd PL (H) | Man of the Match

Haaland got 3 goals 2 assists, both assists KdB would've been proud of. Not sure how this one is even a debate.

5 goal contributions in his first derby for Haaland. Madness.

A glimpse into what it could look like when it clicks. Genuinely feels like we haven't played all that well so far this season, but today it all seems to be working as we'd have hoped - its pretty glorious. Same again second half.

    United (H) - Sun 2nd Oct, 14:00 | Pre-Match Thread

Arguably 4th and 5th choice CB's with no defensive midfield against a team that will just play to counter. About as spooky a set of line ups as it could've been for us. Still have faith, we'll just have to score a fair few as I expect they'll get a couple on the counter.

Akanji is very two footed, great for a CB - started that move with a confident threaded ball into midfield on his left foot.

Nice line up. Happy to see Alvarez get a start.

    18 | Stefan Ortega - 2022/23 Performances

He did miss a pass towards the end, because I remember gawping as the commentator said his distribution has been off today, as I was thinking that was the first non-perfect pass. Alongside getting 90% of the players identities wrong it was truly a shocking commentary performance.

    19 | Julian Alvarez - 2022/23

To be honest he's been very similar to Jesus for us, fantastic work rate, pretty good at everything, yet should've scored 3 with a couple of pretty easy chances wasted. I really liked Jesus, so suspect I'll really like Alvarez. Would be nice to get him into the team with Haaland to see what...

    Champions League - 2022/23

All four English teams would've taken that before the draw I reckon. Spurs and Chelsea especially cushy. Ours and Liverpools tougher but still favourites for each.
