The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 - Page 550 - category ideas.

@BlueHammer85 - My additional suggestion would be to not have an unbalanced draw where you get down to 5 entries and then one is eliminated on a technicality. If you aim to have 160 entries again, the first round should feature 32 matches with all other songs getting a bye:- R1 - 160 songs, 32...

If only there was a thread that summarised the results on page #1 :)

Not sure I see where you are coming from. Any category is a restriction of a kind and I’d argue if you picked 100 songs from the year 2000+ they’d be just as good/bad as a geographic category.

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 - Page 550 - category ideas.

I won't be nominating Midnight Oil - they are about as far from Manchester as you can get and therefore will have no chance. I do think forcing people to pick at least one from outside the NA/UK will be a good category as it would help broaden the selections, although they would almost...

Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2, Episode 16 - Spaced Out - RobMCFC (pg 338)

You'd think that a week in Spain would give me plenty of time to chill out and listen to music, right? Over the course of the holiday, I listened to music ONCE at night and read my book TWICE and that was it! I was so busy playing games around the pool, petanque, rifle shooting, talking to...

The Bluemoon Song Cup 2024 - Page 550 - category ideas.

It's come up a couple of times in the above comments but I support the idea that at least one song should be from outside the UK-North American axis. Also, somebody said that no song from an artist that was in the top 10 last time around and I agree that this would be a good idea (but I don't...

The Album Review Club - Week #122 - (page 1438) A Black Mile To The Surface – Manchester Orchestra

Yeah, it was me. Haven’t been keeping up with the thread but a sixth sense kicked in and told me it was update day. Just lucky I checked in 10 minutes after this weeks album was announced.

The Album Review Club - Week #122 - (page 1438) A Black Mile To The Surface – Manchester Orchestra

Rightly or wrongly, a lot of our collective reviews are written from the perspective of what we already know (and who we already listen to). I enjoy reading everybody's take on what's been offered up in any given week.

The Album Review Club - Week #122 - (page 1438) A Black Mile To The Surface – Manchester Orchestra

Getting my review in early as I'll be away next week. Day for Night – The Tragically Hip Before I started listening to this album, I had a good feeling about it. Why? Because as is often the case, I had a quick read about the album and noticed a few interesting facts, all of which can be...

The Album Review Club - Week #122 - (page 1438) A Black Mile To The Surface – Manchester Orchestra

Interesting. A band I've heard of because I remember reading a glowing review of one of their albums many moons ago (can't remember which one, but it was probably in the 90s). Anyway, I thought that I must buy/listen to this album, but never did.

The Album Review Club - Week #122 - (page 1438) A Black Mile To The Surface – Manchester Orchestra

It's gone over my head. I know @southamptonblue likes Midnight Oil, and I've already nominated an album of theirs that has "Sun and Moon" in the title. I'll probably kick myself put I haven't got it yet! I hope it's Tom Petty but we'll see. Off on an errand now so I won't find out until later :)

The Album Review Club - Week #122 - (page 1438) A Black Mile To The Surface – Manchester Orchestra

Scores all over the shop this week: ABC's The Lexicon of Love scored two 10s and two 9s but also managed to scrape together a couple of 3s and a couple of 4s as well. Still, it's a respectable average of 6.79 from 14 votes, and I think quite a few people enjoyed using the musical time machine to...

"Waking Light" - Beck @threespires - Has this playlist been updated since the initial 5? I can only see those.

    Reading Challenge 2024

I’ve read the first 3 twice each, the last run through in preparation for the mammoth final part 5 years ago. It’s that kind of series that you can get so much out of on multiple reads. Totally agree about Zafon’s death. I was so intrigued about what he’d do next.

Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I hope she is getting the right treatment and at least some decent pain management.

Funnily enough I thought of this song (“Falling”) when I was initially thinking of examples and forgot to mention it when I did the write up.

    Reading Challenge 2024

Have you read The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon? Not really about the Spanish Civil War, but a lot of the characters are haunted by it as this book (and it’s three sequels) progress. One of my favourite all-time books and series. More closely associated with the Spanish Civil War is...

Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2, Episode 16 - Spaced Out - RobMCFC (pg 338)

I think spaced out in a weird or sinister way is just as relevant.
