£200 now is the equivalent of having about £35 in 1977

Depends what you're buying.
In 1977 a digital watch cost between £25 and £50. You can buy them now for less than a fiver

A gallon of unleaded will have been around £1. Now it's £6.30

In 1977 our old family home would probably have been valued at £4000 - £5000
If it went on the market today, I'm certain it would be around £180,000

That's how much people were selling their children into white slavery for back then.

She's probably just thinking what could have been.
