Young Manchester City midfielder Abdul Razak is waiting to hear whether he will be allowed to stay in the country by immigration authorities, according to a report in The Times.
Razak, who made a surprise Premier League debut against West Brom earlier this month, has been with City since last summer and signed a contract in December running to July 2012.
The Times report that he arrived in the UK on a visitor's visa three years ago but was abandoned by the people who brought him over. He may face returning to the country of his birth, the Ivory Coast.
City coach David Platt spoke about 19-year-old Razak after the 3-0 win over West Brom and said: "He’s a talent. He has trained with us on a regular basis, but it just happened today that we had two strikers on the bench in Jo and Edin Dzeko, so John Guidetti found himself in the stand.
“We didn’t have many midfield players and I’m not too sure the gaffer would have thrown him on had the game been a bit tighter, but he has ability, no doubt about that."
The Times say that when City picked the player up, they instructed a lawyer, Gulay Mehmet, to assist Razak with his application to the UK authorities for an extension to his stay.
