Yet more empty rhetoric from Gove - Brexit will mean our fishermen catch more fish because fewer foreign vessels will be fishing in UK territorial waters. How does he propose to enforce that with our 3 fisheries protection vessels and a massive coastline - maybe the currently redundant aircraft carriers can be got out of mothballs and used to chase off French trawlers in the channel lol

Maybe the EU boats will observe the law and not fish there?

That's not a reason not to stop them though is it? If we need more patrol boats we should build them and enforce the territorial waters.
Once a few have been caught and fined illegal fishing of British waters will stop, we may have only 3 ships at the moment but strangely the fishing grounds aren't the entire coastline. We do have maritime surveillance aircraft and believe it or not British trawlers fishing legally have that new fangled radio thingy, not that our fishermen would dob them in you understand or tow over their nets.I'm pretty sure that the Royal Navy is quite capable for protecting British waters without turning out our uncommissioned aircraft carriers just yet.

How? In less than 2 years? And with what? The austerity cuts will bite elsewhere now we are recladding tower blocks in fire retardant materials. Maybe Theresa has found Jeremy's magic money tree?

What, both of them?

The level of knowledge on this forum is astonishing at times.
Guess how you patrol the maritime environment in the 21st century?
P8 + MQ-4C

You misunderstand - I am not talking identifying fishing vessels I am talking about enforcement. Unlikely that post Brexit that trying to enforce our waters will be any more successful than enforcing quota's with foreign boats has been already - ask any fisherman they will tell you we enforce quota's far more rigorously than the Spanish do for example. Do you think their authorities will be more helpful once we are out?
