Ashes 2017/18

well done JJ, superb knock and bringing a little pride to proceedings.

Maybe the answer was, before the incident, putting Hales and Stokes in instead of Vince and Moeen and play one-day cricket in the test matches. Let's be honest, the number of centuries Aussies with mediocre skills and poor technique got, maybe we just need to turn up next time with an ODI approach and go fuck it.

Couldn’t Roy be considered for tests?

We haven’t had a quality attacking opening batsman since Trescothick.

Steve Smith doesn’t have a great technique....

he's mastered it though, Roy's is a much more happy-go-lucky streaky style which means that even when he's in, he's very easy to get out. He can rocket along to 30/40, even 70/80 and it will be the simplest ball that will get him out. When he comes off he's immense, but it's not really grounded in something repeatable like Smith, who can do it over and over again which is why he owned Root this winter and won the Aussies the Ashes, he was able to a) convert and b) do it again and again.

Fair point. Just to be clear, I wasn’t trying to compare Roy to Smith...but he has proven that a strong technique isn’t everything at test level. I guess Roy would need to improve his temperament and score plenty in the county championship to be considered for a test call-up.
