City's shots & goals: are we that bad?

We rely too much on Kun and don't have enough goals around the rest of the team.

Look at teams who've won titles over the years - Yaya, Pires, Lampard, Scholes have all chipped in 20+ goals from midfield in title winning seasons; City and United have both had teams who've won titles with four strikers in the squad all chipping in well with goals (Kun, Tevez, Dzeko, Balotelli; Kun, Negredo, Dzeko, Jovetic; Cole, York, Solskjaer, Sheringham)...

In the last few years the regulars in our team other than Kun don't score nearly enough goals. We don't shoot from outside the box enough neither.

Gabriel Jesus will help towards making this better, obviously.

Those stats suggest Chelsea are by far the most efficient team. Conte is doing amazing already.

Hazard is an unbelievable player, they have two top top drawer goalscorers, Hazard plays behind Costa either out wide or centrally and we are badly missing a second goal scorer like that,

Hes way in front of the likes of Sterling, Navas, Nolito and Sane.

It needs addressing or we will continue to flatter to deceive in front of goal.

@shemnel's This graph would seem to counter your argument that we're gifting goals - only Chelsea and Liverpool have a lower Expected goals against.

Now obviously Liverpools defence has been getting some stick for not keeping clean sheets, but following Expected Goals at least, it seems we're just getting a bit unlucky in that teams are converting their 1 chance on goal

Perhaps we are just giving them 1 huge chance per game, instead of multiple half chances.

Either way, with our Ex. Goals scored above 2, we shouldn't be getting held to 1 goal and it's the attack that's failing.

Yet, Nolito has a goal every 144 PL mins and Hazard's is 1 every 130mins, not that far off.

The quality of the goals are completely different though, Hazard makes his own goals, running at defenders and shooting on sight, Hazard is in a different league.

Fair enough, I'm not comparing them in terms of quality overall, it's a non-contest really but Nolito has that 'Johnny on the spot' ability that will see him contribute his fair share of goals.

As an aside, whilst looking at the stats I've discovered that every PL game that Nolito starts we've won.

For scoring we are too reliant on Aguero, defensively we are fine for long periods then the whole team goes to sleep and gifts the opposition a goal.

We have to do something about the threat up front because our midfield do not contribute enough goals, and Pep will have to work overtime on our defending if we are going to win anything this season.

Not devaluing Hazard at all, because when he's on, he's a very difficult player to defend against, but that first goal against Everton is a bit soft, it kinda goes through the same keeper who had the match of his life against us. We have to see how these things pan out over the season, but luck and finishing I'm sure will both improve.
