Ronaldo's ego in wanting to take the 5th glory penalty.. if a team gets to take a 5th penalty it's likely the other team have missed as you don't often get a team score all 5 penalties. And if your team doesn't you won't get to take one (likely) anyway.. there is no logic at all.
It's basically a vanity project that Portugal indulge because he's their best player but smacks to anyone else as all about Ronaldo and Team Ronaldo again.
The most pressure penalty is the 1st penalty.. pick a corner, put your foot through the ball, set the tone, get the crowd gee'd up. Old school Shearer style. No fecking about like these Portuguese fannies do with their stop-start or short run ups trying to be too clever and ending up looking like a bunch of lemmings thinking they know better than the great teams of the past in the Art of penalty taking.
He bottled it (didn't want to miss the pressure penalty) and wanted the glory (as even if he misses it's not likely to matter much he knows he won't be held responsible as he's unlikely to miss the crucial penalty!). This is why he's disliked so much as if he was "THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD" he would prove it by stepping up not bottling it to preserve his own reputation.
