Reminder our next meeting is this Thursday, 26th May 2016, Walshaw Sports Club at 7.30pm.
Our special guest for the evening will be ex-City legend David White. Manchester born, David signed as an apprentice for City on his 18th birthday and was a member of the 1986 FA Youth Cup winning side that also featured future first team regulars Paul Lake, Steve Redmond, Iain Brightwell, Andy Hinchcliffe and Paul Moulden.
He made his first team debut in September 1986 and was one of three palyer to score a hat-trick in a 1987 10-1 demolition of Huddersfield Town (can you name all the scorers that day?). On23 April 1991 he scored four times for City away to Aston Villa, becoming the first City player to score four goals in a league match since 1977.
As the top division in English football became the Premier League in 1992 David had the distinction of scoring City's first ever Premier League goal. Shortly after he was awarded his one and only England cap.
In December 1993, David was signed by Leeds in an exchange for David Rocastle (RIP). He left Maine Road (where we used to play) having played 343 first-team games for City, scoring 96 goals (79 in the league). A spell at Sheffield United followed Leeds before he was forced to retire from football in 1998 due to injury.
