Discuss Pellegrini (Pt 3)

Pellegrini's preferred system is the 4222 we're playing which we he played at Villareal too. I saw an interview with him on the UEFA website in which he said as much. I think with the personnel, particularly the strikers, it's of little surprise that he's using this system at City.

The problem arises when we get injuries to key players. In these moments i definitely think he should look at switching to a 4231 ... I discussed this with wireblue i believe yesterday. The issue at sunderland was ... with Dinho and Rodwell injured - who does he play in the 4231 and who does he drop. Particularly given the form of Negredo and Aguero.

Rodwell was an unused sub on Sunday BS , he was available to play.


I am sure already MP doesn't rate him , he is in the Lescott , Milner , Hart, Richards , Barry , Clichy etc basket.

Only gets a gig when others up the order are injured etc.

Rodwell won't be at City next season if MP is still in charge.

MP doesn't rate our current crop of English breed at all BS and I think you and I both know that.

Hes playing Garcia at the expense of Rodwell and MIlner.

And what the fuck does Navas bring to the party that Milner did very well last season doing in that position

Navas is a one trick pony with no left foot, and he coudlnt tackle a fucking cooked breakfast.

If that happens which English superstars (ha!) will replace them? Otherwise we'll be trying to win the CL with a 19/20 man squad.

Perhaps. But then with Rodwell you have to weigh up (i) that he's highly unlikely to last more than 60 mins and (ii) whether he's disciplined enough to play the role. Against Norwich at home last season he was excellent, but the partnership with Yaya was awful and left us hopelessly exposed.

With Milner (i) Pellegrini obviously wanted to play him in one of the wide roles ahead of Navas, which I understand given that one of the major criticisms of him has been that he's been too attacking, especially away from home, and (ii) he too lacks the discipline to play a holding role (it is, as you say, a specialist role).

so why was Barry allowed to leave we wonder......

If it was a purely football decision, I'd say it was a poor one. He'd be ideal for coming in to replace Fernandinho as and when required. But I don't think it was - probably as much financial as anything else. And as FantasyIreland wrote, he might have pushed for the move himself, sensing that he wasn't going to get a game.

I reckon MP told him he could stay for his last season but he couldn't guarantee him a game or inferred as much and Gareth ain't silly.

He said as much in an interview I saw with him on television recently.

You can't blame him , I doubt he will get a gig in Rio anyway age is against him but it was his best chance and we wouldn't have renewed his contract.

Its a plus for him and Everton.

Amazing how two of our grafters are doing well at clubs ahead of us in the table at present.

The condemnation of Navas is quite pathetic.....he was the only one who worried Sunderland by taking on their defenders when he came on and put some great crosses in. And it took Henry a full season at Arsenal to settle into the English game yet you are giving up on Navas already.

......worried????? I will be worried if they are still here in February. So when we play Barca in the round of the last 16 you would prefer that Richards, Lescott, Rodwell( jury is still out on him) and the like are included in that team.......God help us!!!!!!!.

For all the money spent the squad is woefully short of quality in some areas, and we are always one or two injuries away from being mediocre, which for our resources is laughable and I certainly don't buy into the we have the best squad argument, although I do think we have the best 11.

And,has been pointed out repeatedly,that fact has very little to do with Pellegrini.

But keep waving that stick......

Be worried then as only Lescott is a serious chance of leaving us in Feb and will have to be replaced by an English defenderif FIFA rules are to be adhered to.

pelle was all but appointed manager in may, he had the summer to watch every kick of city's last 3 seasons, to see the positives and the negatives, I certainly wouldn't be happy as an owner to see 100 million spent and the new visionary to suffer all the same old problems.

I certainly wasn't under the impression we had appointed a manager who didn't research what he was taking over, but that's what you are implying.

Richards,Lescott,Milner and Rodwell are not being given the minuites on the pitch hence a deteriation in there overall peformances.

I was under the impression we replaced mancini with pelle, to make the next step, at the moment we have gone backwards.

We have spent 100 million on top of our already mega squad, yet have 4 points from 18 away from home, I would argue a man on the street would get a far better return with the players at our disposal, lets be right sunderland, Cardiff, villa and stoke possess about two players between them who would remotely interest us.

The problems we encountered last season have appeared again, but with even worse results, I cannot believe that finding a solution to teams parking the bus wasn't discussed with pelle during negotiations, and I was sure we would have seen a far better return than suffering the same old failings.

Rotating the squad is fine, but it has to be done correctly, and sometimes while taking a calculated gamble, but playing the best team against a woeful cska, and then ending up with the side we put out against sunderland was just poor judgement and left our title challenge not in tatters but potentially 3 defeats from being over.

Could it be argued pelle's contract is weighted towards champions league, so from a personal point of view it takes priority, also the message from the Spanish duo that they see managers as a 2 year cycle worries me, I would be happier for a manager to be laying long term foundations as opposed to a huge short term contract where he knows he will not be in the job for too long.

MP deserves time and support, but he needs to be doing a hell of a lot better than he is doing, we don't need to settle for average this isn't 2007, we have everything in place and should have a team and a manager that reflects our 2013 status.

This is exactly what Khaldoon said in his post season interview and you are bang on the money in everything else you say.
I guarantee the worries of many on here and many of those who are not can be extended to boardroom level.There is no way in hell they will look at our away form and not be seriously concerned.

I'll vouch for crmcfc here, I work with this guy and he's deffo not a rag, he like me is a long standing seaton ticket holder with the blues!
