I thought it was Kolo Toure’s ban after failing a drug test that established Kompany alongside Lescott in Central Defence?

Kompany came into central defence early 2010 soon after Mancini joined following a bit of an injury crisis. Boyata then unknown, played a couple of games along side him.
Toure's suspension was the following season and allowed Lescott to establish himself as Kompany's partner.
