Gordon Banks's "wonder" save..1970 world cup.

Anyone else think this was a good save, but nothing special, Kenneth Wolstenholme used to rave about it for years afterwards as though it was the save of the century. Definitely overrated. Banks milked this for years afterwards.

it was a quality save, banks made the ground from his left post to the right post while that ball was in the air, i'd never knock that save thats one piece of football i never forgot when i was a kid

Joe Corrigan at Leeds in an FA Cup tie made a much better save than Banks under similar circumstances.

Pele's header hit the ground so that helped Banks as he was diving anyway. I don't he'd have got it if Pele had headed it in the top corner. Plus Banls was already moving towards the ball.

Corrigan's was far better because the ball was delivered to a Leeds player in a very similar way but he headed it back across the goal towards Clarke and Corrigan was committed. Clarke headed it high towards the corner but somehow Joe twisted his body in mid air and just got enough on it to take the sting out of it so Mike Doyle could clear. Anyone who was there will tell you it looked a certain goal and what a stunning save it was.

I remember Canizares making a similar save from Ballack in the Champions League.

Banks' save is the best for me - especially as I watched it live on TV when it happened.

But more recently, Heurelho Gomes' save against Arsenal's van Persie was utterly amazing.
