im thinking of doing this next summer. being 19 the chances of doing things like this in 3-4 years time will be slim to none

anyone don it before or heard of anyones experience of it?

Not for a year but for the summer for a couple of months.

Basically involves being what they call a counsellor at a US summer camp and supervising the kids there. If you have a specialist skill of some sort (music, a sport, etc.) then you could be involved in running that as an activity.

You get your accomodation and (I think) flights plus you get paid while you are there. I know a lot of kids who have done it and it's hard work for the time you are there but they've all enjoyed it then gone and had a holiday in the USA afterwards.

My younger brother is out in Maryland now with Camp America. He did it last summer and really enjoyed it, so much so that he's gone back to the same camp this summer.

Go for it I say.

A guy I used to knock about with did it,
He was doing sports over there, through that he moved over there coaching kids football.

I did Camp America twice, 1988 and 1989. The first year I was a Sports Instructor and the second I was archery.

I loved it and still remember it fondly to this day.

With regards to the bunkhouse comment, a guy fot electricuted when I was there int he shower block during a thunderstorm.

Do it, you will remember it all your life. Take some money so you can travel after. You will be innundated with offers to stay at American's houses.
