Ridiculous decision in my opinion.
The Lords offers a decent check and balance against the government of the day and by silencing get him you weaken that.
Look at the US where the president is attempting to remove the press and both houses to rule by executive measures.
We rely upon these people to keep our government in check. For every Hesletine there will be a looney left that's the point, it's good for democracy.
