For 17:30 games you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn (didn't we play at 12:30 at Portsmouth once?), get a good day's drinking started before the game, watch the game, then finish a good days drinking into the night afterwards. Neither game is that far away neither you could be back in Manchester by a more than decent time for both games.
