Jim Bowen RIP

Never crossed my mind that he would ever have anything in common with Stephen Hawking.

I see they kept to the rules and the non darts player went first.

Mr Sunday afternoon for me, forever linked with roast dinners, The Love Boat, Black Beauty, Catweazel, Gerald Sindstat et al.

Loved Bullseye and thought Bowen was top drawer.

What I liked most about him was the way in which he was very encouraging towards the guests and helped them feel at ease; they were there for a day out and he made sure it was enjoyable and memorable for them. These days, quiz shows or other shows involving ordinary members of the public seem to be all about making people look stupid, and all the hosts are bastards.

Very funny guy, too. Great at telling anecdotes.

Originally saw him in TV in the commedians with Goodwin, Roper, Manning etc.

On bullseye he/it was so bad even when first shown it was brilliant.

Recall the episode where there was a couple, male and female, and the woman said she wrote poetry whenever possible, to which Jim replied " and when he gets home at night do you show him your ditties "!. Aah yes, I remember those glorious un PC days.
