not sure how he now gets away without any ban at all (as he was already booked in the game)

was definately a foul and at the very least a red card and now he's free to play us

hopefully shouldnt make a difference but still would have been nice to play against a weekend defence!

the 2nd card was a straight red which is what he appealed. if he'd been given a 2nd yellow he would have still walked but as there is no appeal against a yellow he would have missed a game.

indeed, but surely the offence should have been downgraded to a yellow, at the very least?

the way the rules are a red can't be downgraded to a yellow. technically a red stays on the player's record even though a successful appeal results in no suspension.

but thats what we appealed to the FA to do with the balo incedent v wba earlier in the season!
surely the club wouldnt have appealed knowing the rules would have prevented a succesful appeal

city appealed balo's red at wba on the basis that it was an excessive punishment, the inference being that the club felt it merited no more than a yellow. however, the only outcome possible was that either the red card was overruled completely or it was upheld. the latter was the result & he served a 3 match suspension.

it's a similar situation to the red john terry received for rugby tackling jo. he was given a straight red but won his appeal. although nobody suggested it wasn't worth at least a yellow he couldn't be given a retrospective yellow.

it's all a load of cock of course because it gives the fa a get out whenever they have a "sensitive" case to deal with.

yeah you're right with the terry one, the red still stood but no ban was given. If it works how you described it then I don't like it! It seems like they're saying the ref made the wrong decision completely when, in this case and the JT one a foul worthy of at least a yellow card was committed.

The foul was a yellow at best. The Ref should have given that. He didn't Sunderland appealed and now the outcome is correct. I cant see a problem. Not often the FA get anything right these days though is it.

I've got to say that i didn't think it was worth any sort of card at the time. I missed the first half hour, but I thought the officials had a shocker. Some disgracefully pro-Liverpool decisions made - and I don't just mean the penalty and red card.
